ENGAGE2020 was developed by Dr Rice Broocks as a strategy to
equip and empower local churches for growth through evangelism. It
has been designed to particularly address the critical state of the
North American Church where only 3% of Churches are growing through
evangelism.
Rice has over 30 years of experience in evangelism and church planting
as well as an academic research degree from Fuller Theological
Seminary. His focus has been on restoring the role of the evangelist
in the life of the local Church. This strategy has led to a multi-site
Church in Nashville where he serves as Senior Pastor as well as
church planting movement in 61 countries.
By identifying and training evangelists within a local congregation
they will serve as the equippers and motivators for every believer to
be a witness. Thus the goal of becoming a missional church can be more
effectively achieved and sustained.
Research has shown this step of identifying and activating the
evangelists within a congregation to be virtually non-existent in
the North American Church. Therefore a major goal of Engage2020 is to
raise up a new generation of Church-based Evangelists that help make
the missional Church missional!
Engage 2020 involves 3 phases:
1) Engage Weekend - 6 hours of training with an experienced, Church-
based evangelist. In these sessions, the core of the Church will be stirred to
evangelize and make disciples; proven tools will be introduced to
clarify and simplify this task; those with the gift of the evangelist
will be identified.
2) Equip - in phase 2 those that have the gift of the evangelist as
well as those wanting to " do the work of the evangelist" will be
equipped to know how to function as a working part of a local church.
Regardless of the philosophy or small group strategy. This takes place
through a course offered live as well as on the Engage2020 website.
3) Empower- phase 3 offers coaching and consulting for those
who are evangelists as well as those involved in the disciple- making
mandate. The goal is to sustain evangelistic fervor and activity by
activating and utilizing church-based evangelists.
This strategy is named Engage 2020 because of the unprecedented
opportunity to reactivate the missional DNA in the Church for what has
been called the "decade of evangelism"
"ENGAGE" calls the Church into this great opportunity to reach
people with the Gospel.
"2020" focuses on the 10 year goal of this strategy to affect 1% of the
300,000 churches in North America.
